How to Use FB Check Ins to Land Clients

Hey guys. Stuart Trier here from SEO Cheat Guides. In today’s video, I want to talk to you about how you could add value to local service companies in your area for your particular niche. These are things like restaurants, bars, spas, chiropractors, dentists. Anywhere where people are visiting the office or the location where they’re providing that service, they really want to have the check-in feature set up for Facebook, and a lot of business owners simply don’t know how to do it and/or how to engage with people that check in at their location.

I’ll give you some examples of how this works in my life. If I am out with my kids at a restaurant, or perhaps we’ve gone to the local play area that’s inside and you pay to get in, they have a check in feature. Very often, what happens is that triggers somebody else to say, “Oh, if you guys are there, we’re going to come join you.” It’s taking advantage of that social interaction on Facebook to bring other people into their business.

Now, when I’m checking in, it’s not necessarily to promote their business. It’s more to share with my friends what I’m doing with my kids or with my wife. A lot of times, what ends up happening is people end up joining us.

The same thing happens when we go and there’s a new restaurant that opens up in town and we check in at that new restaurant. Generally speaking, that’s something that triggers that social conversation between our friends and very often leads to those people going to that restaurant as well. It’s hugely beneficial for that business to provide that opportunity to start that conversation.

Again, where we come in as marketers is a lot of business owners just aren’t up to date on all of the options they have within the Facebook page platform to help spread the word about their business. So, this is where I would come in and I would create something like a step-by-step guide on how to monitor Facebook check ins and literally walk them through, step-by-step, what they have to do in order to set this up for their business. But, really, what I would do if I was you is I would take it, I would brand it for your business, and I would send it to them with a note saying, “Hey, I’ve been to your, you know, whatever location,” or “Hey, I noticed that your location doesn’t have a check in.” This is how you set up the check in, and I would give them that guide, and then that way, I would also leave with a hook. The hook would be, “If you want me to show you how to pull the information of people that are checking or show you how to engage with those people, click here.” I would insert like a Calendly link and let them book a call with you. Then I would offer them a second guide that will show them how to do it.

Again, the idea is to start to open these conversations with them, where you’re engaging by helping people. And then by helping them and allowing them to take the next step with you, they’re able to go further in that relationship with you. You differentiate yourself from that other marketer who’s just messaging in and saying, “Hey, let me take care of your social media. I’ll charge you $1,000 a month,” not showing any value upfront, not building that [inaudible 00:03:09] I can trust, not demonstrating that they’re an expert in their niche, not demonstrating that they’re there to serve and to add value, so that when you take the next step with you and they ask you for a recommendation, you’ve already have some trust with them. They’re going to look to what you’re saying and they’re going to be way more receptive to hearing what you’re recommending, based on the fact that they’re going to view you as someone who brings value.
